This is a material that supposedly reduces noise. I'm hopeful that it will reduce engine noise, at least a little. I've covered the rear part of the car, so all the metal between the passenger compartment and engine is insulated. Some people cover the floors, too, but that seems to me like a good way to trap water and promote rust.
