Peeling Powder Coating and Debris on the Air Intake
The sheet metal was powder-coated when the engine was rebuilt in 1998 (13 years but only 5000 miles previously). You can see that it's peeling pretty badly, not just in one place, but all over. Where it's not actively peeling, it's bubbled and will come loose soon. This is not just a cosmetic problem; as it peels, pieces could come loose and block the air flow to the engine. It seemed almost inevitable that it would be peeling inside the shroud too, and when I removed it, I saw that it was. Not good!
