Heater Control

heatercontrol.jpg

The car has a "short shift" kit. The aluminum spacer visible in this picture increases the distance between the shifter pivot and the shift rod, so there is less movement of the shifter needed for a given movement of the rod. To give the heater-control lever its full range of motion, I had to machine an extra slot in this spacer. I also had to machine the underside a bit to create room for it. It might be possible to avoid this by mounting the lever on top of the spacer, but then the cables would have quite a bend in them, and that would cause other problems. You can see one set of the new cables here as well. I used spring-tempered stainless steel wire. It isn't plastic coated, like the originals, so it may wear the plastic guide tubes a little faster. I'll just lube them and deal with it.
