Surface of the New Band

surfaceofthenewband.jpg

The band has a molybdenum surface, which is actually a little rough. This allows it to grip the synchro slider in its oily environment. When that layer is worn off, the peak of the dome looks shiny and polished, and the synchro doesn't work well any more. These newer bands have a grey surface; the older ones, which are used in gears 2 to 5, are black. I'm not sure what accounts for the difference.
