The puller is in position but not yet tightened. When I tighten the nut below the plate, it compresses the spring somewhat until the plate sits flat against the body. Continuing to tighten it pulls the top of the spring downward until it eventually breaks loose. Only the top two inches or so of the spring are pressed into the shock tower.
