After trying quite a few options for getting by without one, it became clear that there's no substitute for an ordinary, external antenna. Installing one is not difficult; the hard part is screwing up the courage to drill the hole in the fender. (I used a step drill.) In the 911/912, there is a special place intended for it, and that at least eliminates a certain amount of guesswork. In this picture, the antenna is almost completely lowered. This type of antenna disappears into the fender, making it easy to use the car cover.
