Oily Yuck!

You can see fresh oil puddling slightly in the bottom of the bell housing, and oily dirt elsewhere. I found that there was a crack in the shaft seal; amazing that it wasn't leaking even worse. Fortunately, the clutch looked really good; no oil contamination. I would normally replace the clutch summarily on pulling an engine, but the 912 clutch is expensive and it seems pointless to replace it unless it's genuinely bad. Also, engine removal in this car is much easier than most, so it's not a big deal to replace the clutch when it finally dies.
